Postspawn
Postspawn is the stretch of time after bass finish spawning, when females especially are worn down and need to recover. Fish move off the beds and hold near the first structure or cover close to the spawning flats, feeding to rebuild energy but not always aggressively.
This period matters because bass behavior changes fast. They suspend more, relate to shad and baitfish, and can be scattered along drop-offs, points, and grass edges instead of tight to cover. Anglers often slow down and target these transition zones rather than fishing shallow banks all day.
A practical approach is to fish a mix of baits at different depths until you find where bass are holding. Swimbaits work well for imitating shad along these transition areas.
- Focus on secondary points and channel edges near spawning bays.
- Slow your retrieve compared to prespawn speeds.
- Expect bites to be softer, so watch your line closely.
